The Effect of War on the Russian Ruble |

On Aug. 8, Russia declared war on Georgia. By Aug. 9, it was an all-out war. Reports show that over 2,000 people died during that short time, and more than 100,000 people fled the conflict.
War is never pretty. In war, no one wins ultimately because everyone loses something. However, war has always been and possibly always will be in the future.

Watch Those Canny Japanese Forex Investors |

One thing I've learned from working in the foreign exchange market is to watch what the Japanese are doing. Why? They are very wise and patient investors who are usually right over time.
The Japanese are very different from most currency traders, especially the average American currency trader, who tend to be short term in nature. Japanese traders will hold positions from a few months to a year or so. They use a very small amount of the leverage, and have well-capitalized accounts they can hold on to while the bigger swings happen, and as they await their payout in months to a year.

Tables Turning on Australian Dollar |

For the longest time, it seemed the Aussie dollar could do no wrong. It largely dodged the subprime fallout in America, which is more than most countries can say.
While America and many other nations’ fundamentals started eroding and heading south, Australia’s economy was still running strong, and its job market was tight.
